What is Antispam Marisuite for Outlook?

It is embeddable tool works with Outlook and helps detect spam.

Does Antispam Marisuite for Outlook work with Outlook Express?

No, it doesn’t. Antispam Marisuite is addin for Outlook, member of Microsoft Office. It doesn’t work with Outlook Express.

What version(s) of Outlook does the Antispam Marisuite work with?

Antispam Marisuite works with Outlook 2000/XP/2003/2007

Will Antispam Marisuite work with Outlook connecting to an Exchange server?

Yes

There are emails that go to the quarantine that I put in the Whitelist... Can you help me?

Antispam Marisuite requires matching both e-mail and name of sender because spammers can fabricate sender's e-mail address, but spammers never know sender's name

Can mail marked as spam automatically be marked as read?

Yes. You can find this on the E-mail filter tab of the Antispam Marisuite settings dialog.

How can I get rid of the envelope tray icon for spam?

This is a very difficult thing to do, because Outlook does not expose the hooks that are necessary to cleanly do this (feel free to write to Microsoft and tell them that they should correct this). This means that even if you have set Antispam Marisuite to mark spam as read, the envelope tray icon will not vanish.

Can I back up the Outlook knowledge base?

Yes, you can.

Knowledge base is located in "Application Data" directory. To access it click Start, click Run, type (with quotation marks):
"%appdata%\Marisuite\Outlook Addin"
Then click Ok.
There are files filter.db and messages.db. Filter.db contains data for classifier and messages.db contains messages samples.

Can I share/move my training data from one computer to another?

Marisuite's files do not contain messages' text instead they contain "hashes". There is no way to restore messages' text, therefore you can move or share them.

How can I configure Antispam Marisuite to delete spam rather than moving it?

Sorry, but you can't. However, you can configure Antispam Marisuite to move old spam to Deleted Items. It is a very bad idea to delete spam immediately because of there is no absolutely exact spam filter. Falsely deleted message may cost too much.

Some of my mail is going missing!

Antispam Marisuite can not delete your mail - if it arrived in Outlook, then either it's still there, or something else removed it.

Check that the mail isn't in your 'Junk E-mail' folder or your 'Quarantine' folder, and that you are checking the correct folders (i.e. go to the 'E-mail filter' and Quarantine tabs of the Antispam Marisuite settings dialog, and click on 'Browse').

You can try to search for the mail, too, using Outlook's 'Advanced Find' (in the 'Tools' menu). Even if you don't know the subject of the 'missing' mail, you can search for all messages that have arrived since a certain date or time.

Sometimes mail is in the Inbox (or another folder), but not visible. This, too, isn't Antispam Marisuite's doing. You can set Outlook up to only show a subset of the messages in the folder, with a "View Filter". The Outlook documentation has more information about this (although the 'Advanced Find' will still show the message).

How do I uninstall the Antispam Marisuite?

Note that if you simply want to disable the spam filter for a while, you can do this by unticking the "Enable E-mail filter" box on the E-mail filter tab of the Antispam Marisuite settings dialog.

Otherwise, you uninstall Antispam Marisuite like you uninstall any other Windows program, using the "Add/Remove Programs" Control Panel. This will stop remove all the program files that the Antispam Marisuite installed. It would be a good idea to do this while Outlook is not running.

It is important to note that files spfaddin.dll and spfres.dll will not be deleted. It is because of Outlook tries to load then once after Antispam Marisuite uninstalled. You can delete them manually, but you should first start and stop Outlook.

Note that this does not remove your personal files. This includes your databases, configuration and license files. This means that if you later reinstall the Antispam Marisuite (or a later version), those files will still be there, ready to use. If you wish to remove these as well, you can remove them like you would delete any other file (move them to the Recycle Bin). The backup question explains where you can find these files.

Does Antispam Marisuite work with non-English languages?

Yes it does. Antispam Marisuite was tested with different national characters. Antispam Marisuite is a Unicode application and it is designed with well known libraries with supporting national characters. It means that you will have no problems with non-English languages.

How do I train Antispam Marisuite?

There two ways to train Antispam Marisuite: simply moving message to appropriate folder or using buttons in Antispam Marisuite toolbar.

Do I need to keep spam after it has been trained? If so, for how long?

Once a message has been trained there is no need to keep it around. Antispam Marisuite keeps messages samples in its knowledge base for training.
